Closed vocabulary NLP

Definition: A predefined, fixed set of words or tokens that an NLP system or method is allowed to use or recognize, typically excluding novel items except through an unknown-word mechanism; in recent NLP literature, closed-vocabulary methods are contrasted with open-vocabulary methods and are often described as hand-crafted approaches based on a fixed lexical inventory such as LIWC [Mosca et al. 2022].
