Definition: A language that is deliberately created rather than having evolved naturally within a speech community. In current scholarly usage, conlang is the standard clipped form of constructed language and covers languages created for artistic, experimental, auxiliary, or other planned purposes [Malik-Moraleda et al. 2025].
Example in context: “We found that the sets of most responsive voxels are more similar … within an individual between a natural and a constructed language…” [Malik-Moraleda et al. 2024].
